Lentävä Lapanen Knitting café and shop

The Lentävä Lapanen (“flying mitten”) knitting café, combines a cosy yarn store and a café. Lentävä Lapanen is located in the centre of Järvenpää.

In commemoration of Sibelius’ 150th birthday jubilee, Lentävä Lapanen produced a complete set of materials and instructions for mittens based on the design by Aino Sibelius. Aino Sibelius, formerly Järnefelt (1871 – 1969), was married to composer Jean Sibelius. The package contains a knitting outline and yarn. A perfect souvenier from your trip to Lake Tuusula!

Lentävä Lapanen has its own domestic yarn known as Lempi, which is made from the wool of the Kainuun Harmas sheep. The wool is dyed by hand and it is best suited to socks and stockings.

Lentävä Lapanen arranges courses in knitting and weaving for groups on request.

Opening hours:
Mon – Tue, Thu – Fri 10 am – 6 pm
Wed 10 am – 8 pm
Sat 10 am – 3 am

Knitting has been studied to have a good effect, it e.g. lowers blood pressure and soothes. Experiences of success and joy produce a good feeling.

Knitters and crocheters also find tools, buttons, manuals and leaflets to browse and purchase.

Yarns for every taste are sure to be found from the store. The selection includes both basic sock yarn and hand-dyed special yarns. The sticks can be found in bamboo, carbon fiber, aluminum and the popular wooden squares.
