Composer Jean Sibelius is known for his set of seven symphonies and compositions such as Finlandia, the Karelia Suite and Valse Triste. Jean Sibelius was and still is the most respected and best known Finnish composer of all time.
Jean and Aino Sibelius got married in 1892 and they had six daughters. In 1904 the Sibelius family moved to countryside - to a newly-built Ainola - which provided him much needed peace for composing. Ainola was the Sibelius’ home for over half a century and it was in here where he composed most of his works.
Aino's brother Eero Järnefelt lived nearby, in Villa Suviranta. Jean and Aino Sibelius were the most longstanding residents of the artist community as they both lived to an old age. Their grave is in the Ainola garden.
